I’ve been busy optimizing couple website that i manage these days. Well, even tho i do it for free and everything has been under-appreciated, at least i get some new knowledge that i will use in the future. So, is making things a tiny bit faster will gonna affect someone in their life? Probably.
Creating and managing website is easy these days. Especially with helps from the nerds who created bunch of ready-to-use codes with unlimited usage possibility. I’ve been on this field since i was a kid, but there was a gap in my life that made me lose so many precious lesson.
The world spin too fast, technology evolve rapidly, and i still walk like a turtle with a headache. Back in the day where internet wasn’t a thing on many people, creating a website to share information is enough by just putting a black text or simple picture over a white space. But now, things are completely different.
Information spread fast enough for the last 10 years, thank’s to the technology. I still remember back in the day where i have to wait for hours just to download some archive which have less than 10 megabyte in size. I still remember when netflix isn’t a thing, youtube isn’t really that popular ( i have to think like 10 times to open up a video to avoid data consuming ).
Now, 4k streaming is available, 1080p youtube videos are everywhere. Do we really need those technology? Is that will be enough or do we need some more? Some tech guy which i don’t remember who or where, ever said that people will be in pain if they open up a website and it still loading for more than 3 second. Oh come on, you can’t spend that much time in your life to wait for some information that you can get for free?
Here’s the thing tho. I’ve been trying to shrink the loading time for some of my websites down to less than 3 second each site. I had to optimize every aspect for it by spinning around my head and bang it to the wall multiple times. It turns out that there are tons of aspect that i have to figure out just to reduce couple seconds of someone else life.
I used some free online tools on the internet to determine my website score so it’ll help me to achieve my goal which is loading time. But there are tons of aspect that i have to think and all these numbers are just giving me headache. We’ve been determined by these numbers, and the funny thing is that it’s not only that. Even information / articles that spread on the net are full with links.
Backlink, pingback, trakcer, so on and so forth. We write based on SEO rating, we don’t really think about quality of the content or we relied too much to the scoring and try to write article with perfect SEO score defined by an automated system–robot. Is it really necessary? Is our life really sunk to that place?
Does it really matter? the numbers? the speed? can we just take a break for a moment? Jeez i’m tired.
